Q & A with our Experts

Sometimes when we try new products we want to make sure we’re comfortable and know all about it.  We want to feel good knowing we are choosing the better option for our specific needs.  Whether you are a loyal advocate or new to Quick Shine®, below are common Q&A’s answered by our very own renowned experts.

You will quickly see why our Quick Shine® Multi-Surface Floor Finish and Quick Shine® High Traffic Hardwood Floor Luster will bring your floors back to life and outshine the rest in performance.

Q:  What is Quick Shine® Multi-Surface Floor Finish and Quick Shine® Hardwood Floor Luster and how do they work?
A:  Our Floor Finish and Hardwood Floor Luster are water-based polymers that dry to a hard finish and provide an unmatched gloss on sealed hard flooring surfaces.  Each product is also formulated to provide slip resistance to ensure a safe walking surface after application.  Once applied to the floor, be sure not to walk or touch the film until it is dried completely.  After 30-45 minutes (depending on humidity, temperature, and other environmental elements), the finish will be dry to the touch.  Additional coats may be applied after a minimum of 45 minutes (ideally 60 minutes) to ensure the previous coat is dry enough to accept subsequent coats.  It is important to avoid introducing water to the finish for the first 4-5 days and allow a full cure.  This will prevent any water reabsorbing back into the film and potentially causing white water spots to appear.

Q:  What’s the difference between the Hardwood Floor Luster and the Multi-Surface Floor Finish?
A:  Both products are water-based polymers, but the Hardwood Floor Luster is fortified with pure, carnauba wax that is absent in the Floor Finish.  We have also altered the ingredients ratio in the Hardwood Floor Luster to be more specific for use on hardwood flooring.

Q:  How can I clean my floors after applying the Quick Shine® Multi-Surface Floor Finish?
A:  Dust mopping is the best practice during the first 4-5 days after applying the Floor Finish.  It is recommended to refrain from cleaning with our Floor Cleaner until the finish is fully cured (4-5 days).  Periodic cleaning using our Quick Shine® Multi-Surface Floor Cleaner or Quick Shine® Hardwood Floor Cleaner via our Multi-Surface Spray Mop and microfiber pad is the recommended process.  We do not recommend flood coating the floor during cleaning; instead, it is better to use a damp mop pad or spray mop to apply the cleaner to the flooring surface.  Our ready-to-use cleaners have been specifically formulated to clean your finished floor without leaving any streaking or residues like many other household floor cleaners.

Q:  What’s the difference between the Quick Shine® Hardwood Floor Cleaner and the Quick Shine® Multi-Surface Floor Cleaner?
A:  These two products contain similar cleaning agents; however, the ratios of these ingredients have been altered in the Hardwood Floor Cleaner to create a product that is more conducive to a hardwood flooring surface.

Q:  Can I use the Quick Shine® Multi-Surface Floor Finish on an oil-based flooring?
A:  No, it is not recommended to use our Quick Shine® Multi-Surface Floor Finish or Quick Shine® Hardwood Floor Luster over a flooring surface that has an oil-based finish because our floor finishes are water-based.  Our products would not adhere over an oil-based product; instead, it would bead-up on the surface.

Q:  I didn’t allow my Floor Finish to dry completely before accidentally dripping water on the floor.  How can I fix it?
A:  White spots are caused when water drops onto the floor finish during the drying/curing process.  Since the Floor Finish is water-based, the presence of water on the surface of the finish during the drying/curing process will cause the finish to absorb that water, creating the white spots.  Even though the finish is dry to the touch and able to be lightly walked on after only 1-2 hours of applying the Floor Finish, it still has to have time to cure.
If you are unable to keep water from dripping on the floor in the curing process (4-5 days after application) we recommend placing temporary rugs/towels in front of appliances/sinks where water drops may occur.  If you do not want to use temporary items, and you allow water drips that create a white spot, do not try to repair the spot immediately.  Allow the area to dry overnight, and then apply the Quick Shine® Multi-Surface Floor Finish or Quick Shine® Hardwood Floor Luster directly to a clean, damp, soft cloth and apply only over the white spot and the immediate surrounding area.  Allow to dry for a minimum of 2 hours and it will again, look uniform with the rest of your floor.

Q:  Can I use the Quick Shine® High Traffic Hardwood Floor Luster on my “hardwood” laminate floors?  If not, what do you recommend?
A:  Our Hardwood Floor Luster and Multi-Surface Floor Finish can be used on laminate flooring.  We have several customers that have used both products with success on their laminate flooring to provide a luster or shine.  It is important to note that caution should be used not to flood coat a laminate flooring surface.  It is recommended to apply thin coats.

Q:  Can I use the Quick Shine® Hardwood Floor Luster on my engineered hardwood floors?  If not, what do you recommend?
A:  Absolutely.  Sealed engineered hardwood floors respond very well to our Hardwood Floor Luster product.  It is recommended to apply 2-3 coats to achieve the best shine, especially if the flooring surface is distressed in any way (weather-look, aged, etc.).

Q:  Can I use the Quick Shine® Multi-Surface Floor Finish on my outside porch or in my garage?
A:  Our floor finish products have been developed and formulated for indoor use applications.  It would not be our recommendation to use our products where outdoor conditions are present.

Q:  The Quick Shine® Multi-Surface Floor Finish wasn’t applied to my floor properly and now, there are streaks on the floor.  What did I do wrong?
A:  Streaking is usually caused by a few issues: 1.) Not enough product was initially applied and you can correct that with an additional coat; 2.) There was residue on the floor before the Floor Finish was applied.  Some examples could be: furniture polish, air freshener mist that has settled on the floor, etc.; 3.) The same applicator pad used to clean your floors is being used to apply the Floor Finish; 4.) Not allowing sufficient time before applying subsequent coats; 5.) Trying to apply too many coats in a short period of time, not allowing each coat to dry completely.

Q:  Can I use a buffer over the Quick Shine® Multi-Surface Floor Finish or the Quick Shine® Hardwood Floor Luster?
A:  It is not necessary to buff our floor finishes as they are dry bright formulas.  You simply apply to your floor and it dries to a bright, gloss finish.  Additional coats will build the gloss to a level that is satisfactory to your preference.
If desired, our Quick Shine® Hardwood Floor Luster can be buffed with a floor buffing machine; however, it is not recommended to buff our Quick Shine® Multi-Surface Floor Finish product.

Q:  I’ve applied the Quick Shine® Multi-Surface Floor Finish to my floors.  Can I use a steam cleaner on it afterwards?
A:  It is not recommended to use steam cleaners on a floor after applying the Floor Finish.  Steam cleaners drive water vapor into the finish, which can affect the floor finish and cause adhesion loss.

After applying floor finish, how long before moving furniture back into room?

Hi Lonni! Although the Floor Finish can dry in as little as as 30-45 minutes, it takes 4-5 days to fully cure. However, you may move your furniture back into the room after a few hours using the “lift and move” procedure instead of scooting things into place. Also, use extra caution when moving things (kitchen table chairs for instance) until the Floor Finish is completely cured. I applied a second coat to early and now there are little circles everywhere I applied on the surface. Will another coat fix this?

        Hi Derrick,

Unfortunately you may need to spot treat and remove the Finish from those areas. We recommend using Quick Shine Deep Cleaner or Ammonia and Water to remove the Finish. Once the area is clean and dry, you can reapply a new coat to blend and even out the appearance of the floor.

Hi Kay! We recommend using our Quick Shine Deep Cleaner to remove the scratches and compromised shine from your floors. Quick Shine® Deep Cleaner/Wax Remover will also remove other waxes and finishes without harming hardwood floors or their polyurethane seal or any other type of floor surface, including tile and tile grout. You can also just do the compromised areas rather than the entire floor surface, if you wish. Can you use a swifter on a laminate floor?

      Hi Christa,

You can use a dry swiffer pad on your laminate floor to pick up dust and light debris. It is recommended to vacuum first, then dust to pick up what the vacuum left behind. Once your floors are clean and dry, simply squirt and spread our Quick Shine Multi-Surface Floor Finish for a beautiful protective shine on your laminate. We do not recommend the wet swiffer pads as the fragrance and cleaning agent in those pads can leave residue behind and streak the floors. Reusable microfiber mop pads are a wonderful alternative and environmentally friendly. Use our Quick Shine Multi-Surface Cleaner to maintain your floors quick and easy. Squirt. Spread. Done!

      Hi Terry,

You can spot treat areas that have been affected by moving heavy furniture across the floor with our Quick Shine Deep Cleaner. This product will emulsify our Finish back into its liquid form and it will easily wipe away. Once your floor is clean and dry, you can reapply a few new coats to just the area that you have removed. This should blend back nicely.

I used quick shine floor finish on my engineered wood floors, however there are several areas that have streaks that are visibly noticeable. How do I fix this? Also, how do I completely remove quick shine floor finish?

Hi Melissa! A streaky, white residue that occurs over recently applied floor finish can be caused by a variety of factors: applying the finish to an unclean surface, not using a fresh applicator pad, allowing foot or pet traffic before the finish has dried, or not allowing each coat to completely dry before cleaning or applying additional coats.

To correct your situation and to remove the finish, we recommend using Quick Shine® Deep Cleaner. The Deep Cleaner was specifically formulated to safely remove the finish in any compromised areas of your floor. After using our Deep Cleaner, you may apply the Quick Shine Floor Finish once the floor has completely dried. You will be amazed at the deep, rich, protective glow. If applied and maintained correctly, you will not need to go through the removing process again. If you have any additional questions please feel free to call our Customer Service M-F at 1-800-255-1891 from 8am-4:30pm EST. We are always happy to help!

      Hi Anne,

If applied and maintained properly, our Quick Shine Finish will not peel over time. We recommend maintaining the shine with our Quick Shine Floor Cleaner to gently clean your floors and prevent compromising the Finish. I’m extremely happy with this product however i picked up the brown bottle for the 1st time and got nervous so i did not use the brown bottle. What is the difference between them? Can i use the green one as the 1st coat n the brown 1 as the 2nd coat? Which 1 gives a better shine? This is a A+ product! Love It but would like to try the brown bottle.Should i stop being nervous n give it a shot? Will it show up all the imperfiction on my hardwood floor?

      Hi Scotch,

Thank you for your brand loyalty. Both our Quick Shine Multi-Surface Floor Finish and Quick Shine Hardwood Luster can be applied over existing coats of one another. Our Hardwood Luster contains pure plant based carnauba wax in the formula which will provide a softer shine than our Multi-Surface Floor Finish. If you have a high traffic home and you feel that the Multi-Surface Finish is not holding up as well, you can use our Hardwood Luster next time to see if it provides the durability you are looking for. You truly can’t go wrong with either product so don’t be worried to give our Hardwood Floor Luster a try next time!

      Hi John,

We recommend applying our Quick Shine Deep Cleaner to the spill on your wool Persian carpet. Simply dilute a few teaspoons of Deep Cleaner to 1 cup of HOT water and apply to the area. Allow solution to sit for a few minutes before gently dabbing the area with a damp cloth. You may need to repeat the process a few times to completely soften the carpet fibers and remove all of the Finish. If you have additional questions, please contact customer service at 800-255-1891. We are always happy to help!

I applied Quick Shine to my clean hardwood floors and it looked awesome! The next day we started noticing more n more terrible scratches from the dog. What changed when I applied this product? It is softening my wood floors? What do I do now? My floors have lasted years and within a few days of applying this product they look terrible. Do I need to get the product off the flooring? If so, what is the best way to remove from real hardwood floors? Thanks in advance!

      Hi Jenifer,

Thank you for reaching out to us. Most likely your pet’s nails are scratching into our Finish causing these surface scratches. You can spot treat the areas or remove all of the Finish to get back to your original floors. We recommend removing our Finish with Quick Shine Deep Cleaner. If you would like more information on how to maintain your floors with pets, please contact our customer service department at 800-255-1891. We are always happy to help!

Once you apply the quick shine deep cleaner do the scratches go away then? This happened to our floors as well. We were unable to find the quick shine deep cleaner, so ordered it and it should arrive today. Our floors are new…does that mean the “surface scratch” is in the wax and will be gone once the deep cleaner is used?

          Hi Tami,
If you have Quick Shine Finish on your floors and they are showing scratches, our Quick Shine Deep Cleaner will remove our Finish as well as the surface scratches. Our Finish acts as a protective barrier on your floors and the scratches are only etching our Finish. For additional questions, please contact customer service at 800-255-1891.
